1.  Where did you go to art school?

I didn’t go to art school. I have a business degree from the Wharton School, a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and a graduate law degree from Temple University Law School. Many famous artists didn't go to art school and were self-taught, such as Paul Gauguin, Maurice Utrillo, Henri Rousseau, and Horace Pippin.

 

2.  What art training do you have?

I am self taught. I am a keen observer, and trial and error is a great teacher. Many famous artists, such as Paul Gauguin, Maurice Utrillo, Henri Rousseau, and Horace Pippin, were also self-taught.

 

3.  What do you do besides being an artist?

I’m a full time artist. I enjoy time with my family, travel, friends, movies, reading, and sports cars. I enjoy visiting museums to see the work of other artists. Several times a year I visit the Barnes Foundation, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Metropolitan Museum.

 

4.  Where do you get your ideas?

This question always surprises me. My ideas come out of my mind. My mind gets them from my many experiences. I always hope my ideas will resonate with others.

 

5.  What’s your signature style?

My signature style is to create huge Pop Art 3-D paintings on shaped stretched canvas. I explore contemporary issues such as the nature of existence, disorientation, alienation, loneliness, unrequited love, complex relationships, conflict, unrest, war, greed, unfulfilled dreams, yearning, and boredom. And I do it in a Pop Art way, that is with familiar, recognizable subjects from contemporary culture, and in 3-D.
